0.4.0 - Kind of a Halloween Update, Kind of Not...
Happy Halloween! I know that we’ve gone a while without a new update, and I'm sorry about that, but I'm hoping that this one is going to be worth the wait. I have a couple new features to share, some of which I've been hoping to get into the game since 0.1.0, and also just some quality of life improvements that I think are really going to help Far-Out Finley be the best it can be. So let's go over what they are shall we?
New Features:
- Music Tile: A new power up! Send music that sounds so good that Caddis, and even the meteors, can’t help but follow it, switching the way obstacles are going (Either it’s really good, or really distracting. I honestly haven’t made up my mind what the lore reason is, if there even is one).
- Score Counter: Now, the amount of tiles that you pick up, as well as how many are right, are counted, and shown to you at the end of the run.
- The max level you can attain in the beta version has gone up by one, and with it comes a new hat option! In the spirit of Halloween, we have our first mask in the game, and it’s one of a more traditional looking alien. To get it, just advance to rank 5 in-game.
- There has been some noticeable reworking of sprites done. Caddis has a new animation for when he gets taken out, and Finley sprites have been reworked to make his key features, especially on his outfit, more noticeable. I really like the new looks those two have gone with. Hope you do too! All hat sprites were also updated. In addition to character animations, certain UI visuals have been revamped as well to look more crisp and distinguishable.
Beta 0.4.0 Patch Notes:
- Slight performance optimization.
- Minor bug fixes.
- Caddis now has more of a cooldown after being hit.
Switching gears, I have an update on this game's status as a mobile app. I do understand that last devlog, I said that Far-Out Finley had been submitted to Google Play for review, but I have decided against it as certain aspects outside of the core game, such as the privacy policy, were not to my liking.
While I still plan to release this on mobile phones, and as many platforms as possible for that matter, whenever I release Finley onto a platform, I want to do it right. For this reason, I am currently planning to release the game on iOS and Android when it is either in a completed state, or close to a completed state, which gives me more time to perfect the game, and everything surrounding it. Thank you for your understanding. I promise the final product will be worth the wait.
As always, thank you for reading my devlogs, thank you for playing the game, and thank you for giving me feedback. I hope you all have a great Halloween, and continue to enjoy life as we get ready for the last chunk of the year.
Take care of yourselves,
- Ed
